Sistahood Leads the Way as Little League Territorial Softball Debuts

The future of Virgin Islands softball took the field this spring as girls ages 9 to 12 played the first Little League territorial softball season.
Four teams took part: the Diamond Dolls and Lady Lions from St. Croix, and Sistahood and Venom from St. Thomas. They played eight games over three days on St. Thomas and St. John, with the final games at the National Park Field on St. John.
Sistahood set the pace, going 5–1. They beat the Diamond Dolls 13–7 on the first day, then 14–12 on the second day, along with an 11–7 win over the Lady Lions. On the final day they won 14–13 over the Diamond Dolls and 14–6 over the Lady Lions.
The Diamond Dolls had the last word, though. They beat Sistahood 14–11 in the final game, after edging Venom 15–14 earlier that day. The Lady Lions also had a big win, beating Venom 32–8 on opening day.
The scores were high, as you'd expect in a first season, but the energy was real. Organizer Richard Clendinen said this was the first year of Little League territorial softball in the Virgin Islands. The program's goal is to develop teams strong enough to compete in Puerto Rico.
Thank you to every parent, coach and volunteer who got these teams onto the field, and to every girl who showed up to play.
